Granholm, City of Light

On the southern continent lies the City of Light, Granholm. Compared to the rest of the world, the southern continent is highly advanced in the arts of magic. As such, they've attracted many scholars and warriors alike in search of knowledge and power. The city is home to the prestigious Laurel Magic Academy, responsible for turning out the greatest Mages for the latter half millenia. Contained in Granholm is also the Veritus Barracks, where the nigh unstoppable armies of the southern continent are produced from ordinary folk.

The city itself can hold 2 million residents comfortably. That doesn't include the market place, the castle, the Central Tower, the Academy, the Barracks, or the Sewage treatment plant (A new invention by the researchers at the academy. Plumbing, who knew?) The whole thing covers over 1000 square acres and is constantly being expanded to accommodate newcomers.

The Castle is where the King and Royal family lives.

The market places is filled with banks, food stalls (where imported food is sold), Blacksmiths, and many other kinds of retailers reside. It's said if you can't find it in Granholm Market, you can't find it, (which is ridiculous according to this Swordsmith).

The Academy is located on the west end of the city and houses all the intellectuals of the kingdom. It has four branches, the Research Branch, the Practical Application Branch, the Administration Branch, and the Training Branch.

The Barracks is on the east end of the city and houses the military and warriors of the kingdom. It has three branches housed within. The Training Branch, the Housing Branch, and the Administration Branch.

The new Sewage Treatment plant, being built in conjunction by the Barracks and the Academy is in the southern end of the city. It smells.

The Central Tower is the only thing in Granholm not understood by those living in it. It's a pure white tower built ages past. It stretches out from the ground and points straight into the heavens. Some say that there's something on the top, like a treasure, or an amulet that grants the wearer unimaginable power over all things. Other say they've seen angelic beings gliding to and from the top of the tower. Some opinions support the belief that the tower is really a joke played upon the people by the ancient gods. No on knows for sure because when anyone approaches within 10 meters of the tower, they're stuck by lightning, blasted with fire, doused with water, and swallowed by quicksand, never to be seen again. Needless to say, no one goes close to the Central Tower.
